New Year is the one time of the year when most people around the world make a decision to change for the better. The most common resolutions include appreciating loved ones more, spending more time with family and friends, getting fit or losing weight, quit smoking, drinking or another bad habit, enjoy life more, learn something new, career improvements, save money, get out of debt, help other people more, become better organized. The list is endless.

While some succeed and enjoy their life more because of it, a large proportion of people will not. Whether it is New Years or not, now is the time to change your life for the better. Using the tips below, you can see this happen with success.

Making a resolution is important because it shows that you recognize areas of your life where you would like to make improvements or changes that will increase your happiness. Unfortunately sometimes people are not clear on what their exact resolution is.

Write it down
To get started with your resolutions, you need to write them down. Add details and descriptions to make it as clear as possible what the precise resolution is that you are aiming for. Work out how you intend to achieve this goal. Research, plan and make out a spreadsheet or keep a hand written copy of it that you can take with you everywhere. While you write this, think of every possible thing that might help you succeed and anything that will stop you from succeeding, adding tips on how you can eliminate saboteurs (whether it is your or somebody else).

Step by Step
Once you have this list, write out your plan of how you will achieve your resolution, step by step and then focus on each step at a time, not all of them at once. That is too big a goal for the mind to fathom and it will make you quit. Keep it realistic and simple. Understand that you will not reach the final goal in one day and that it will take time. Decide the date you will begin your changes and buy yourself a diary or calendar to help keep you on track. You can record your progress on it.

If you are working on a group goal with others, get a commitment from them and plan together, but also allow for your own success should they not complete it. If you are working on a goal by yourself, work at a pace you can achieve things, but don't allow yourself to work at such a slow pace you will eventually give up. Make sure it is a pace where you will see the changes and this will keep you enthusiastic with your project.

Keep Going
If there is one thing life likes to do, it is to get in the way of a well laid plan. Remember that if you do not achieve your goal in the time you originally expected to, that is okay. Do not give up. Even if you quit for a while, do so with a set timeframe in mind for example you may decide to take one week off a diet when you go away for a holiday but will return to the diet on a particular date marked on you plan/calendar. No matter what your resolution is, you will be able to carry it out if you remain realistic and plan for it.

Good luck with your resolutions!
