My Animal Totem - The Eagle
by Donna Thomson

Soaring Eagle

One of my Guides comes to me as a Native Indian, named Red Eagle. Early in my experiences with Red Eagle, I began to get visions of an eagle's head when meditating. I was able to get confirmation from Red Eagle, that the eagle was indeed my totem animal.

When I found out that the eagle is a highly significant and spiritual animal, I felt empowered and excited. This was all happening at the time my psychic abilities had started showing themselves. What a wonderful confirmation of my spiritual path and connection to the 'Great Spirit'. The eagle has been revered as sacred by many cultures across time. Eagles are believed to soar so high that they can touch the 'Great Spirit'. They represent swiftness, courage, freedom, keen sight, knowledge of ancient ways, rising above the material to connect with higher spiritual energy, and so much more. Eagle feathers are known to symbolise power and healing.

The eagle has excellent vision and teaches us to maintain a connection with the spiritual realm. It also teaches patience, as the eagle can sit on a tree branch for many hours on end, just observing. I am fortunate to have the eagle as my totem animal, but people with different totem animals can welcome the eagle energy into their life at any time by watching and learning about eagles. Becoming attuned to the qualities and symbolism of any animal will connect you with that energy.

One day, my Guides had set me the task of channelling my first message for a stranger. I started to get on with my day and see what happened, heading to the kitchen sink to start washing the dishes. As I reached out to turn the taps on, I looked out the window to the clear blue sky. Well, the sky was clear, except for large cloud looking exactly like a feather! Not another cloud to be seen, this was no wispy feather-like cloud. It was a clear and distinguished feather! I took this as my sign to begin the channelled message task, and off I went. It went wonderfully, and when I finished, I returned to the lounge room where my children were watching a documentary...on eagles! Yes, I couldn't help but notice those signs of synchronicity that day. It is a great feeling to have that connection with Spirit and to know that I can soar like an eagle, higher and higher over time.

I have since learned that Red Eagle is a Shaman and he helps me with meditation and healing. While in meditation, he has shown me other animals whose qualities I need to bring forward at particular times, such as the bear's ability to stand up for itself. This has served me well and I feel empowered when I consciously bring that animal's energy forward to help deal with certain situations.

There is so much we can learn from nature, animals, and Mother Earth. Why not ask for your totem animal to reveal itself? Be open to how your animal will reveal itself to you. It could be through a book that draws your attention, a picture, a song, a cloud formation, a vision or dream, or even seeing the actual animal if you are that fortunate. There are many qualities to be gained by tuning in to our fellow Earth inhabitants. Enjoy the connections they bring to you and your Spirit.
