End of the Weekend

Fireplace

A sunday winters day filled with weekend chores
verandah, paths and steps are swept
free of leaves at least for the day
A few weeds are pulled from the grass so brown

The washing is folded and put away
the workclothes are ready for the next day
the weekend has been part cooking for the week
the soup is in portions, kept in the fridge

The firewood has be carried upstairs
the house is warm all through the days
as the flame has not gone away
since Thursday evening last it has blazed

The oil and water in the car is all checked for
Monday approaches and the new week will begin
the drive to and from is a fair hike
the hours at work can be so long

But to arrive home each night makes it alright
the dog at the gate, with joy in her eyes
the cat meows a hello as we pass on the stairs
and then we sit down and before we know
It starts all over again
