Early Morning Walk

Kangaroos in the grass

The early morning walk I take each day
fills me with wonder to hold through the day
it is still dark as I trek off
an owl greets me with a hoot as I stride by
I ask for wisdom in my dealings this day
further along the horses with their feet tucked up
asleep in the paddock are used to me now
at one time they would arise and bray a good morning
but now they do not even bother with me
further up the road there is another clearing
I can see old man kangaroo in the shadows
hopping along in the morning dew
he stops, up on his hind legs he holds himself tall
turns his head to to see the threat
but decides an old lady is no harm
and bounds away to the fruit on the trees
there is a faint light now in the sky
and the birds are awakening with a tweet, tweet
that just seems enough to start the laughter
of the kookaburra who laughs all day
The spider web has entangled me again
oh that horrid sticky silk,
wraps around my face. he must be new
this spider today, for all the spiders
know not to spin their web in my path
As I walk in the wee hours
I talk to God, I know He has more time
at this hour of day, for most people still sleep
Sometimes we debate, sometimes we agree
But most of all we do decree
that the most beautiful things in our lives
are free, for it only takes a walk to see
