Meeting My Guides

spirit guide portrait - Shakti

This is the story of how my guides became known to me. It is a unique story and may help to illustrate a how magical the world can sometime be, as well as how our guides can help us with different areas of our life. My awareness of my guides happened within the space of only a few days and kick-started the development of a range of psychic abilities. Obviously the time was right in my life for a new and exciting direction which has, in part, led to my involvement in this website!

I had been through many cycles in my life where I would immerse myself in reading and exploring all things spiritual and metaphysical. I again felt that calling and one of the things I did was to have a reading done by Nelutha. I also found an artist who did spirit guide paintings so I jumped at the chance of connecting with my guide. The artist emailed me a photo of the painting to view while I waited for the original to arrive in the mail. She sent me the usual 'how to connect with your guides' info but also said that she didn't feel I would need it. I thought, "yeah right!".

I admit that at first I didn't have much reaction to the photo of the portrait, but then the more I looked at it the more I started to feel a connection. So much so that every time I closed my eyes the face was all I could see. The painting was of a female guide with a blue cloth draped over her head and shoulders, edged in gold. The artist told me that my guide was from the Himalayas. A couple of days later the original arrived in the mail and immediately I could feel a warm energy radiating from the postal cylinder. Curiously this arrived at the same time as my first crystal - a large amethyst point.

I stuck the portrait on the bedroom wall and just sat and looked at it. I could feel energy coming from it which was just amazing to me! That night before falling asleep I asked to be given my guide's name during my sleep, though I didn't really expect anything to happen. However, in the morning I woke to find myself visualising and saying the name 'Shakti'. I had no idea if it was even a real word let alone an Indian name so I jumped online and nearly fell off my chair when I found confirmation that not only was Shakti an Indian word, but in Hindu religion it is the name of the Divine Mother, representing feminine power. I was so excited to have confirmation of the name but absolutely blown away at the meaning! I feel that my guide used this name to represent a loving mother figure and she has often referred to me as her 'daughter' in an affectionate way.

Later on that day I stuck the portrait on the wall again (I had to keep putting it away because at that stage my hubby had no idea what was going on). I sat and studied the image, instinctively holding my new amethyst crystal and placing it on my third eye. I allowed my vision to go out of focus and after a while I saw the colours change from blues and purples to greens and browns. Shakti's image transformed into a male Native American who I felt was connected to nature and healing. Then, the image went lighter into mostly white and I saw a Grecian man with a beard. I was fortunate that Nelutha and I had kept up communication since she did my reading, so she was able to confirm that I had indeed picked up on my three guides.

I definitely feel that this painting contained the energy of my guides and therefore helped me to connect more easily with them, much in the same way as a channelled message may do. Connecting with their energy allowed me to begin to channel write messages directly from my guides and I was soon led to channel messages for others, from their guides.

Over time I've discovered a little more about how each of my guides help me. For example, Shakti is very motherly and has an intricate personality. I feel she helps me a lot on a personal level but also with my development in psychic areas. My Native American guide is 'Red Eagle' and feathers are very symbolic with him. I learned that he was/is a shaman and possibly a chief, though he prefers that I see him in a more natural way. To me he is a protector with a wonderful knowledge of and connection to nature, Mother Earth and healing. He often uses symbolism and animal totems to give messages and encouragement. Finally, my male Grecian guide, Paul, is a teacher and will help me in teaching others. I'm aware that we have been together in a past life and he refers to himself as my 'keeper' guide (otherwise known as a 'gatekeeper' or main guide). However, for the most part he has been standing back and letting my other guides work more closely with me through personal and psychic development. I feel our strongest connection is yet to come.

I'm sure other guides will come and go as necessary, but these three have been supporting me through this new phase in my life and they complement each other very well. Each has strengths which determine who works closest with me at any particular time. So our guides are as unique as we are. They are our helpers on the other side, to guide us and keep us on track. Not everyone will have such an awareness of their guides, but that does not mean your guides are not always there for you. One of my strongest abilities is channelling messages from the guides so it makes sense that my awareness may be more acute than another's. We are each on a journey and this story has been part of mine. Where is your journey taking you?
