If you're looking for natural alternatives to chemical grey hair removers, then the following solution may be just what you're looking for and your where your hairdresser can spot a synthetic dye colour easily, the natural ones are much harder to recognize. This sage rinse not only returns your hair to it's natural colour, but it will also soften the hair.

Sage rinse

The sage rinse is a subtle one that works gradually depending upon how often you use it. Some people put it into a spray bottle and spray it in each day getting a faster reaction time. If you rinse with it every few days to a week, it can take a month to colour completely, but you should see the grey start to disappear after a couple of weeks. Some people spray it into their hair each day.

Make a strong infusion by placing ½ cup of dried sage (preferably organic in a ceramic or glass bowl, never metal. Pour 2 cups of boiling water over it and cover the bowl with a plate and leave it to cool.

You can strain it through a coffee filter paper inside a funnel to remove the sediment making it easier to use with a spray bottle because it won't clog the spray nozzle.

Rinse or spray the hair with the liquid, massage it in and leave it to dry. You can rinse, shampoo and condition as usual but it's okay to just leave the sage liquid in your hair also.

The hair will gradually return to its natural shade. The more often you use it, the more likely it is to return to the shade you want a little more quickly. You may like to add rosemary to it for added colour.

Store the liquid in a glass container. Adding a few tablespoons of pure apple cider vinegar will prevent it from going rancid and it will also prevent your hair from drying out. If you find that the colour begins to get darker than you'd like it to, then just slow down on the use of it until it's at the desired colour again.
