Connecting with Crystals

What is my favourite thing about crystals? This is a hard question to answer, but I would have to say that my favourite thing, other than their beauty and variety, is their ability to connect with me on so many levels.
I have a large collection of crystals, yet I am always drawn to the same few over and over again. I go about my days with an open mind to how the crystals might connect with me that day. I might wear some as jewellery, choose a crystal to hold and observe, or take notice of which one stands out at a particular time and carry it with me. I am always amazed that the most appropriate one will draw my attention at the right time - almost like its energy is reaching out to me - calling me.
What I like is that even if I am not familiar with a crystal's attributes or qualities, they just seem to know what I need at any given time. Or it is that my own energy knows, and recognises the right crystal for that moment? I think it may be a combination of the two.
While I have my familiar crystal 'buddies', my unexplored crystals will still jump out at me (not literally, but they will grab my attention) from time to time. Recently I've been drawn to selenite all of a sudden, and I feel this is helping me connect to bring forward higher spiritual awareness. I feel it has a pure energy that works to open my crown chakra. I have no particular expectations. I just spend time with the crystal and see what happens. I know that if I am drawn to a crystal, or vice versa, it must have a quality I need to balance or develop at the time.
One evening, not that long ago, I watched a very emotional and draining movie. I was still upset when I headed off to bed and wondered how I was going to sleep. As I walked past my crystal display stand, my deep pink rhodonite (which is speckled with black), drew my attention almost from across the room. I picked it up and took it to bed with me, holding it tightly in my hand. Within a few short minutes I felt the emotion drain away and I got a sense of stability and centeredness again. I never make assumptions about crystals and how they will work with me. I just let them do their job intuitively.
Yes, there is nothing like a friendly crystal buddy that knows what you need, when you need it. It's also quite exciting knowing that today or tomorrow a whole new relationship could be sparked when an unexplored crystal calls out for attention. My crystal family keeps life interesting as I discover more about each one and how it can work with me. I think this is something we could all do with - something to connect with that doesn’t talk back. Now you know I'm kidding, right?
