The Aura
by Debra Tyers

What is it?
The human aura can seem like a magical, almost other worldly phenomenon. It seems like this because it can be very difficult to consciously see or feel, but on a subconscious level we are detecting our own aura and every other person's we come in contact with all the time.
The aura is like an antenna of sorts, it picks up positive and negative energy and filters and exchanges energy with every other aura that it connects with, through kissing, hugging, making love, shaking hands to standing in a crowded room... where everyone is standing inside everyone else's auras. There are many positives to this...the feeling you get when you meet someone for the first time and immediately 'click'. The feeling of 'knowing' what someone is thinking before they say it, the feeling that someone has something wrong...an illness etc... this is the aura at work. It is constantly sensing and filtering information to you without your conscious knowledge. It is a way of seeing the unseen.
Everything in the universe is made up of energy. A person, a table, a building, a lake, a pencil, an apple, everything is just vibrating atoms, tiny particles that when massed together and vibrating at different speeds form the solid objects we see and feel around us. Even the things we don't see or that aren't solid such as music, colour, the wind, sunlight, even feelings etc...is all energy vibrating at different frequencies. This is why we are able to feel the aura and (if our auric site is strong enough) see it. The Aura around living (conscious) objects (people, animals etc.) changes with time, and can sometimes change very quickly, even with the flickering of a mood change. Aura's around non-living objects (stones, crystals, water...) are essentially fixed, possibly only changing in intensity i.e....a rough wave filled ocean settling into a calm flat surface. The Aura or feeling around an object is said to be its 'spiritual signature.'
The human aura is thought to be divided into different auric bodies. Each of these surrounds the body in 'layers' starting with the 'Physical Auric Body' which is closest to the body and finishing with the 'Spiritual Auric Body' which is furthest away and forms an egg-like shape. It's said to extend out to 2-3 metres from the body. Most people have never seen layers in the aura, just a mass of colours, or sometimes just the outline around the body. It does not matter if you can't see layers, you might see something totally different. The most important thing is to let your intuition guide you.
The Milky White Band
This part of the aura lays closest to the body and indicates the health of the person. When you 'feel' that a friend is not well you are picking up on this layer of the aura. It is usually seen as a bright white, milky grey blue band extending out about an inch or two from the skin. Good health is a bright clear aura and poor health is said to be seen as having lumps or bumps in the aura corresponding to pain or injury in the physical body. This is the easiest part of the aura to see.
The Colours
As the eyes tune into seeing the aura a new section emerges that contains bright colours. This is said to be the 'memory' layer of the aura which carries the memories of entire lifetimes. It is said this is what you are tuning into, via the subconscious mind, distant memories of childhood and past lives. The 'phantom limb' syndrome is also associated with this part as it 'remembers' when the limb was physically present. It is also the layer that is said to remember the etheric impression of the living person, which can be seen sometimes as a ghost. Also, when you die, it is said that it is this part of the aura that separates from the physical body. At the point of death (and in near death experiences) it is this aura that separates and transports the soul to the afterlife. When auric sight progresses it goes from seeing the 'whitish blue grey light' to seeing the bright colours around the head, shoulders and body.
Different parts of the aura are said to represent different things. It is said that the 'true life force' of all living things is contained in the aura. It not only absorbs energy but radiates it out to others as well. This is the feeling you get when you are in a forest or by the sea...when you feel as if nature itself is recharging you. It is. This is the aura that absorbs the other life forces of living things...i.e. trees, the ocean, other people. It is the aura that detects a headache in another person by giving you a headache. It is also the aura that you tap into for healing...where you can give your healthy life force to another to cure that very same headache.
When auras come into contact with other auras a blending of energy occurs. It is known as the sociable aura. The excellent writing of Australian Aura reader and writer Judith Collins explains this aspect of the aura best...It absorbs as much energy, good and bad, from everything it can. It blends with other people's auras to give 'family auras', family auras blend with other family auras to give a 'neighbourhood aura', which connects to the community aura, then to the even bigger social aura. This connects with atmospheric forces and transmutes to a global aura. This aspect of the aura can be seen/felt most often, i.e. you can be feeling great at the start of your train journey but by the end you are depressed, sad, etc... Why? On the journey you were with other people who were feeling depressed sad etc... your auras mixed and combined in this 'social aura' environment and you picked up the depressed feelings yourself. The reverse also happens...you positive aura blend with a negative aura and in turn you make that person feel better just by them being in your presence.
The aura is also the doorway to universal knowledge and spiritual wisdom. It is this level/part of the aura that is 'activated' when you enter a deep meditation. It is also where spirits communicate to mediums to convey their thoughts to the living. People who can tap into this part of the aura may have heightened awareness throughout their life and show gifts of psychic abilities.
The aura is also responsible for drawing in cosmic energy and distributing it throughout the body via the chakras. They process it and direct it to where it is needed. This part of the aura is associated with Universal Consciousness or connection to God. It is pearlescent white in colour. It is not easily seen with the naked eye and it is responsible for the 'miraculous' things people do...i.e. spontaneous healing, strong survival instinct and very strong psychic awareness. It is the gateway to all knowing. The link to universal consciousness.
Seeing the aura is not magical, it's not something that can be achieved by brute force, or simply trying to use mind over matter. The ability to see the aura and especially feel it is within us all. It takes perseverance, courage, intuition, knowledge...and a strong belief in yourself. It also takes imagination as imagination brings about a freedom of mind and enables you to visualise 'seeing' the aura before you actually do. This is perfectly fine. It is a way of showing your mind the possibility of it. Once you accept it is possible your intuitive self can take over. As with everything, it's practice practice practice!
My Personal Experience with Seeing the Aura
When I began practising to see the aura I didn't even realise that's what I was doing. I kind of stumbled onto it by accident. Growing up I've always had an interest in psychic phenomena and did quite a bit of reading on many subjects...from telepathy to energy work to ghosts to dreams etc etc.
One night while lying in bed unable to sleep I began to look at my hands in the dark and see how well I could see them. After a while I began to notice a faint blue/white outline around them. I had no idea what this was and just fascinated to lay there and stare at it. It was as if my hands had a faint glowing outline. After that I began reading up on the body's energy. I discovered that this outline was normal and was around everything. It was simply the body's energy field and as I was later to find out, the first step in seeing the aura.
After repeating this exercise for a few more nights I roped my sister (whom I shared a room with) into practicing with me. She eventually began to see it too and we would touch our fingertips together in the dark and see the outline around our hands join up. Then I noticed something fantastic. The closer we moved our fingertips together the stronger the light seemed. We would then draw them apart and see a little trail of light stretch out from her fingertip to mine and vise versa. It was almost like the 'after image' of waving a sparkler around in the dark. Like a trail of very faint light that disappeared the further we moved our fingers apart.
I began 'writing' my name in the air in the darkness with my finger (as you do with a sparkler) and seeing the faint outline of letters disappearing as I went. As I practiced more I noticed that when I rubbed my hands together the light would seem stronger. There were also occasions when little 'sparks' of light seemed to jump from my fingertips. I was stunned and amazed and practiced this for many weeks.
Then, one night I woke up from a deep sleep and still dazed and disoriented I got up to go to the toilet. On the way down the hall I saw a bright purple light emanating through the darkness. I didn't know what it was until I got closer and realised that the light outlined a head, my mothers head. She had gotten up at the same time and the light I saw in the darkness was her aura. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and I told her I could see it. She asked what it looked like and as I tried to describe it, it faded. The next morning mum explained what it all meant, (she has strong psychic awareness) and from that day on I have had a fascination with trying to see the aura and learning as much about it as I can.
I have seen other auras on rare occasions. It seems to be a hard thing to conjure them up at will, but I will never stop trying. Maybe some of the examples I've stated above will help you develop your auric site too.
Seeing an aura is a wonderful experience. The colours are so vibrant and beautiful, but even if you can't see it yet, with practice you will. Meditation is excellent for focusing the mind which aides in seeing the aura. It is also relaxing and psychic impressions come more freely when relaxed. There are some eye exercises you can do as well, which you can read about here. Remember, relax, breathe, focus and follow your intuition. With practice, the beautiful aura will reveal itself to you and open up a new world of communication and intuition and confidence.
