About Sound Therapy
by David Gibson

This article is part of our 'About' series where we asked practitioners of various healing modalities and therapies the same set of questions to give you some background information, features of the healing modality, health benefits and what you might expect from a session with this type of practitioner.
1. What type of healing modality or therapy do you practice and how would you summarize it?
Sound Healing and Therapy. There are many modalities ranging from: basic toning (for self and on others) use of natural instruments such as crystal or tibetan bowls, or tuning forks; use of sound tables (massage tables with speakers mounted on the bottom); healing sound and music production; computer voice analysis; and use of colors, and sacred geometry inside the body in Virtual Reality.
2. Why did you decide to become a practitioner in this field and what do you enjoy most about it?
I started out as a recording engineer and occasionally saw pure magic being transmitted by musicians in the studio. I wanted to learn what the magic was and how to access it at will. I enjoy the higher states of consciousness (love, joy, gratitude) that sound can so easily bring you into.
3. What is the history or foundation of this therapy/healing modality?
The known history goes back to Egyptian times where sound was used as a healing modality throughout the society. Recent history includes the research done by Alfred Tomatis, Steven Halpern, and now numerous others -- particularly Jeffrey Thompson, Don Estes and John Reid. However, every single culture in the world has its own form of sound healing (and healers) that have been performed for centuries.
4. What are the key features and components of this form of therapy/healing modality?
There are two main categories:
1) Sound used to alleviate specific issues or diseases. This is the traditional medical paradigm.2) Sound to raise consciousness and harmonize wellness. The new paradigm.
The components include:
- Everything is vibration (whether heard or not).
- Resonant frequencies in rooms, instruments, organs, tissues, chakras, etheric fields, and in nature.
- Healing components of specific colors, shapes (Sacred Geometry), elements, and electromagnetics.
- The effect of the frequency of intention and how it is carried on sound waves (and can even be recorded and then played back with the same effect).
- The relationship of the above to different states of consciousness and spirit.
- The effects of sounds, musical intervals, rhythms, and musical structures on a person physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
5. Does this therapy/healing modality cater to the physical body, mind, emotions, spirit, or a combination of these?
Each one and all together. In fact, each of these components can be thought of as notes in a chord, or harmonics in a sound.
6. When should someone visit this type of practitioner?
- When needing to relax
- When needing to release stuck emotions or issues
- When in pain
- When you need energy
- When needing a stronger immune system
- When wanting to connect spirit or higher levels of consciousness
- When wanting to reconnect to your own root/soul frequency
- When you have a specific disease
- When you have a learning disability
Different sound practitioners specialize in these different areas
7. What can someone expect from a session?
Depends on the protocol. Normally lasts from 1/2 hour to 1.5 hours.
1) Voice Healing - A person stands or lies on a massage table and the practitioner connects to spirit and tones up and down the body.
2) Natural Instrument healing - The practitioner plays various natural instruments around and on the body.
3) VibroAcoustic Sound Table treatment - The client lays on the sound table and listens to music played through headphones (or regular sound system) while healing vibrations come through the table giving an internal massage.
4) Massage with VibroAcoustic treatment - Above treatment while receiving a massage.
5) Root Frequency Entrainment - The practitioner does a few tests including muscle testing to find a person's soul frequency. Then plays a song in that key on the sound table.
6) Tuning Fork Treatments - Practitioner uses specifically tuned forks on meridians and acupuncture points.
7) Voice Analysis - Practitioner records the person's voice while asking specific questions that illicit various emotional responses. The resulting spectrum of frequencies are used to determine weaknesses in organs and potential for specific diseases. Toning or a sound table treatment in a specific key is the recommended treatment to balance out the person's frequency spectrum.
8. What are the most common outcomes for clients?
Sense of peace, well-being, relief of symptoms and conditions.
9. Can you share some success stories from this form of therapy/healing modality?
a) A person who had paralysis in her left arm had it completely go away after 1/2 hour on the sound table.
b) Over and over, clients report pains completely going away after tuning fork treatments.
c) People have had their whole life change after they discover their root soul frequency and are able to have a tool or CD to be able to easily return to it.
10. Is there anything else that stands out to you about this form of therapy/healing modality that you'd like to share?
The field is expanding dramatically. Most people in the field know how powerful sound really is, and know that it is just a matter of time before it completely changes the entire medical field. Globe Sound Healing and Therapy Institute is the leader in studies and research in the field. Globe offers Certificate and Associates Degree Programs. Go to www.SoundHealingCenter.com
