About the Antaneea Technique

Bottles of colour

This article is part of our 'About' series where we asked practitioners of various healing modalities and therapies the same set of questions to give you some background information, features of the healing modality, health benefits and what you might expect from a session with this type of practitioner.

1. What type of healing modality or therapy do you practice and how would you summarize it?

The Antaneea Technique is a powerful, emotional release bodywork process that helps to transform and transmute the energy around historical traumas and emotional events where the memories have been stored in the body. This is achieved through massage and the use of a number of vibrational energy tools, including colour, sound and sacred symbols.

2. Why did you decide to become a practitioner in this field and what do you enjoy most about it?

I started off with a passionate interest in energy work through colour and Reiki. My Aura Soma (Colour Therapy) teacher had developed this new process to apply colour to the body in a specific sequence, and after experiencing a treatment myself was completely amazed by how deeply old emotional events were located and transmuted.

3. What is the history or foundation of this therapy/healing modality?

The Antaneea Technique was founded by Penni du Plessis, a well respected South African Aura Soma Teacher, in 2000. Since developing this new process, Penni no longer teaches Aura Soma, but continues to work with the energy of Colour through her profound bodywork process and specially developed products. The exact process used for the Antaneea was spiritually and intuitively guided.

4. What are the key features and components of this form of therapy/healing modality?

5. Does this therapy/healing modality cater to the physical body, mind, emotions, spirit, or a combination of these?

This healing modality addresses all levels. During a treatment, we work with the physical and mental bodies first, then help to break patterns through the emotional body and finally integrate the learning in experiences through the Spirit body. In this way, the 'soul' is realigned with a greater degree of resonance with its own soul note.

6. When should someone visit this type of practitioner?

This particular technique works exceptionally well when people find themselves repeating patterns of behaviour as a result of subconscious emotional patterns. It is therefore good for when somebody feels that they are stuck in some aspect of their lives and are ready to move forward, but find themselves trapped in old cycles of behaviour.

7. What can someone expect from a session?

The sessions are usually between 1 hr 30mins and 2 hrs. Following an initial consultation and introduction to the process, the client then disrobes and is made comfortable on a therapy table.

The back of the body is massaged 3 times with different sequences of colour (for each of the body levels we work with). During the massage the practitioner is able to 'read' the body, and can establish the age at which emotional traumas occurred as well as the type of event. Through the bodywork process itself, the energy around these events is released and the client is assisted to realise the gifts in the experience.

The practitioner also tones over the body using specific sounds in order to help balance and restore energy.

8. What are the most common outcomes for clients?

This can vary depending on what the client is in need of releasing. Many report feeling happier, more expansive and at peace with themselves. Others may go through a cathartic process of crying and feeling emotional as old energy is released. After the third session, most clients feel more at peace with themselves and better able to deal with situations and circumstances in their lives.

9. Can you share some success stories from this form of therapy/healing modality?

a) A previous client of mine in South Africa, who had been struggling to fall pregnant came for a series of treatments after 8 failed IVF attempts. After the second Antaneea treatment she actually fell pregnant (so never came for the third session!) This was a particularly moving experience, as during the 2nd treatment I actually became aware of an Angel in the treatment room - the angel was holding out a baby for the client, and it was then I knew she had cleared enough old energy out to allow for this to happen.

b) A young male client came for a series of treatments as he had experienced great difficulty managing his emotions, and was constantly angry, stressed and had trouble sleeping. He was at the time under the supervision of a psychologist who was assisting him to deal with the anger. After the 3 sessions, the client reported that he was able to deal with situations in his life much more positively, had reduced his dependency on the psychologist, was sleeping well and had been able to repair his relationship with his father.

c) Another male client who, although a very sensitive man, had a history of failed relationships, had closed down and was unable to connect with his emotions, and had been experiencing total apathy in initiating anything new in his life - based on history. He believed he couldn't make anything work. Within 6 months after the series of treatments he had changed jobs, moved house, lost weight and met a wonderful lady that he became engaged to. He reported feeling happy and able to deal differently and positively with his emotional 'self'. It should be noted that his body was full of 'lumps and bumps' initially where he had closed off to painful emotional memories - these gradually disappeared over the course of treatments.

10. Is there anything else that stands out to you about this form of therapy/healing modality that you'd like to share?

The Antaneea Technique is a beautiful, gentle therapy that works at deeply profound levels in many different ways. Results may be physical, emotional, mental or spiritual - or a combination of all four. It truly is a blessing to work at such an intimate level with others and to assist them forward on their journey in life.
